This house for Oriol Regàs, the promoter of Barcelona's nightlife at the time, was the crystallization of the ideals of La Gauche divine. Many of the characters from that group would anarchically gather at his house in Calella de Palafrugell, without prior invitation. When Oriol commissioned us to design his new home, we aimed to capture the iconoclastic spirit of the turbulent 1960s in the project.

On the best part of the large plot stood a small farmhouse of no architectural interest. Driven by our obsession with preserving traces of history, we decided not to demolish or restore it, but simply to house the garage and other services there. The new construction took on a contrasting exterior form—low, sinuous, resembling a grand piano—and opened onto a rectangular courtyard with a central south-facing pool. The various rooms were arranged in a harmonious yet manner, with intermediate spaces and vestibules, creating an unusual typology suited to the expected changing uses.

The service annex follows the same principles.

The mansion was abandoned and vandalized for years. With all the windows broken, ivy took over the living room. A few years ago, a family who loved it purchased the property. The essential reform to adapt it to a less wild use is no longer our responsibility.
