Aleph-Driade
I had been trying for years to design a bedside table that would allow a tray to be placed over the bed in order to have breakfast or consult a heavy art book without injuring one’s ribs. From my first attempt, years earlier, came the tea trolley produced by Zanotta.
After other failed attempts, the Volátil emerged. A set of three staggered planes: the bottom one, a fixed support surface that protected the rotating drawer; the middle one rotated so that it could be placed over the bed; and the top one, smaller and fixed, allowed primarily to place a bedside lamp.
This auxiliary piece of furniture could serve other purposes –holding a phone, books, ashtrays…– but to fulfill its role as a nightstand, two symmetrical models had to be made.
