When we step on a carpet we communicate with the Earth so, why not reproduce it? So I consulted NASA photographs of the planet and finally found, in Museo de la Ciencia de Barcelona, one, taken from a satellite, that included a full picture of the whole planet. Then came the idea of making also a smaller one that was the Moon. I painted the originals at full scale with six acrylic paint colours that were later reproduced in Turkish knot by artisans from Crevillente, unfortunately almost extinct today.
"Tierra" (the Earth) has a diameter of 250 cm, and "Luna" 120 cm, so, for practical purposes, the true proportions were not preserved. If, since the Egyptian Empire, the celestial dome has for so many years been depicted on decorated ceilings, why should we not, now that we know what the view from above is, have the earth under our feet?
