Den Bosch, Países Bajos
Carles Díaz
A multifunctional plaza (commerce, housing, and parking) adjacent to the beautiful historic center of Den Bosch. A dialogue between the circular geometry of the tall buildings, the square shape of the central glazed canopy, and the peripheral buildings, which also interact with the surrounding environment. The built ring has radial symmetry on the ground floor, but the sun exposure of the plaza – which was advisable in that climate – creates an asymmetry in the elevation: lower height on the southern side and more floors on the northern side.
Access to the plaza is through the "bite" created by the outer halo. This halo resolves the intersection of the pedestrian streets. The plaza is on two levels: the upper level is sunny, open, and surrounded by small shops; the lower level is like a greenhouse, surrounded by large retail spaces.
A project for which we were unable to take responsibility for the construction management, and which today has been altered.
