Barcelona
Lluís Clotet and Jacinto Esteva
This is a project proposed to us by our talented friend Jacinto Esteva. The plot, located on Ronda de Dalt, belonged to his father (as did so many others in Barcelona and all of Ciudad Diagonal). Based on the fact that this large avenue was a noisy, perpetually congested highway (currently, the urban layout and its circulation have improved a lot.), Jacinto suggested that none of the rooms in the apartments should face the street, and that all of them should overlook a generous inner courtyard. Consequently, only bathrooms, staircases, and kitchens would face the nearly opaque façade.
A bold and radical solution which, despite Jacinto's influence, we were unable to carry out.
The design of the semi-elevated access plaza was inspired by José Antonio Coderch's Girasol Building, a key architectural reference for the three of us. (Jacinto insisted that he lived in an apartment in the building of Compositor Bach because his sensitivity would not allow him to live anywhere else).
