Although it was an open competition, François Burkhardt – then director of the Domus magazine– proposed to several prestigious designers that, instead of participating individually, they create and lead a group of young professionals trained in their studios. I thought it would be a good idea to form a team for such a project, with two “artist” designers I trusted and two “technological” ones trusted by Ramón Benedito. That’s what we did with excellent results.
Our proposal to transform the interior of a Boeing Business Jet for private use was extremely experimental. We proposed a fluid and flexible space that adapted to various functions (working, cooking, eating, relaxing, bathing, sleeping…). An interesting feature was that the space would change color according to the landscapes it was flying over. When François Burkhardt personally called me to inform me that we had won the competition, we were overjoyed. We knew the eminent names of the jury members but still didn’t know who the world-renowned designers were that we had competed against. The credit for this success mainly went to Ana Mir and Emili Padrós.
