This was an ironic comment on the hippy aesthetic. If we cover the bedroom lamp with a silk scarf to create a more intimate atmosphere before making love, why not directly use this idea to design a lamp? It could be made by anybody with just a few basic elements: all you needed was a wire frame, two interlocking arches joined at their intersection, supported at their base on four small bags of sand. Over this wire we placed two silk kerchiefs: first a white one, to reflect the light, and a second printed one to filter the light and make it more intimate. The scarfs were bought in second-hand markets to ensure variety in these unique pieces and to bring down the cost, since the silk always got scorched and had to be replaced often.

Obviously, this amusing idea never reached the serious, mass-production stage; only a few models were made for friends and family, although it did figure in the B.D catalogue. Years later, Ingo Maurer brought a similar idea onto the market, a lampholder combined with a scarf, but this time it was made of fire-proof material.
