La Murrina
It was named after the most famous dress design – more properly, a peplos dress – by Mariano Fortuny Madrazo, one of my favourite artists. Fortuny designed a silk lamp in a similar shape to this one, in which I tried to take advantage of the attractive Sfumato effect that Murano glass allows. In the part that protects the bulb, the glass becomes more diffusive, less transparent.
