My first design commission from a Spanish company other than BD (the company we created because no one wanted to produce our designs). I had the privilege of being commissioned by CASAS, the best Spanish producer at the time, to create a complete series of office chairs. Their task as the Spanish producer of Cassina’s splendid furniture helped me immensely. It was a wonderful experience; I became friend with the Casas sisters, and the commercial success, especially of the four-legged model, was spectacular: an authentic bestseller. In 1987, CASAS won the first Premio Nacional de Diseño as a company, and the following year I won it as a designer (I believe the Varius was decisive in both awards).
Unfortunately, both for me and for Spanish design, CASAS was declared bankrupt in 2003. A multitude of designs by prominent designers disappeared from the market forever. It is currently produced by BD Barcelona Design.
