Aleph-Driade

My intention was to make the traditional, beloved little wicker garden armchair stackable, taking advantage of Driade’s interest in producing it in the Philippines (which inspired the name, also as a tribute to Peret). I tried to transfer a proposal I had made to the same company years ago to inject it into plastic to a totally opposite semi-artisanal technology. I achieved this by weaving the wicker over a metal structure, one that remains untouched and only appears bare in the rear legs.

Later, Driade suggested creating a model without arms. We ended up with a chair that, despite being a quick fix, isn’t bad at all.

The little Fina Filipina armchair was blatantly plagiarized –alongside many other designs from notable designers– by Ikea.
