I wanted the corner of the building in the new extension of the Palau 2000, which only houses stairs and elevators and is visible from Via Layetana, to have some symbolic significance. Together with the sculptor Naxo Farreras, we decided to create a relief carved into the brick, similar to some that had impressed me from Babylon or the Amsterdam School. We chose to depict a tree that spanned the full height of the facade, referencing the tree that Pablo Gargallo had sculpted at the mouth of the stage. We made a plaster model at a 1:10 scale, photographed it, enlarged each 10 cm square to one metre, and Nacho carved it into the brick of the facade.
