Lamp designed to solve the lighting problem of a bookshelf. One usually casts a shadow on the shelves of a bookshelf by intercepting the general light of the room. If a light is placed on a shelf, the upper and lower shelves remain in shadow; therefore, it is best to use a point of light located at the top with enough angle to illuminate the spines of the books on the lower shelves. This is how this lamp, which hides the transformer and the switch in a book that serves as a support, was born. It can be integrated in any position and remain hidden among the books, having only a subtle, almost imperceptible antenna that has a tiny directional spotlight at its end.
In fact, this lamp came about as a complement during the creation of the Talaya bookshelf, when researching the best way to illuminate it. In 1998, the German designer Ingo Maurer launched a plagiarism-homage of this lamp, which he titled Oskar. There is no doubt that Ingo's version affected the sale of the Bib Luz and BD (the original producer) ended up removing it from its catalogue.
Many years later, Santa & Cole became interested in reissuing it and, after more than a year of improvements and corrections, launched it back on the market at the end of 2024. The biggest contribution was the possibility of connecting one lamp to another easily and discreetly: we can illuminate an entire bookcase from a single power outlet.
