Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
The four luminous sculptures – Proa, Ancla, Chimenea, and Noray – were created as reference and identifying elements for the seafront of the Jardines de los Puertos Atlánticos, at the foot of the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium.
The pieces were designed, in 1996, to be constructed from Corten steel, a material that never looks new and that would inevitably change in appearance due to the harsh environmental conditions of the location.
The luminous sculptures of the Atlantic Ports are an example of my rare foray into the discipline of pure, non-functional sculpture, but I consider them an important part of my artistic résumé.
Naturally, being my works, they are figurative, and the references to nautical motifs are evident.
