Unbuilt Project
Auditorium, Congress Palace and Porticoed Square
A highly complex project that included an auditorium later reinterpreted, seven years afterwards, in the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, located in El Rincón, at the opposite end of Las Canteras Beach. Strong local opposition succeeded in halting the construction at La Puntilla, a privileged site situated within a densely built neighbourhood.
The intervention of the eminent acoustical physicist Lothar Cremer proved decisive in the design of the concert hall. Hexagonal in shape, the hall featured a strongly stepped configuration dictated by its acoustic requirements.
One of the project’s most significant decisions was to take advantage of its Atlantic-facing location by opening an immense window as the backdrop to the stage. Beyond the orchestra: the sea, an extraordinary privilege. A decision that could later be retained in the final location of the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium project.
