Nubecitas, 1971

with Lluís Clotet

(Out of production)

We tried to make each tile identity disappear creating shapes that overlapped the tile’s rectangular pattern.  If we finished the floor with complete tile as much as if we used a cut piece, the result was the same, we always cut clouds.

With a single tile we can compose six different cloud shapes. Turning them we take benefit of the asymmetries, then sixteen different distributions of the cloud and star-filled sky are possible. The usual brick-like layout of the tiles disappears and the whole pattern takes on an organic aspect, giving the impression that the piece is a single whole.

“That’s what we wrote in 1971. The clouds started life as a decorative graphic motif for use in the pool and other areas of the Regás house in Llofriu (Girona). What I would remark today, apart from the witty geometric play, is that they were clearly in tune with the comics and pop art that were in vogue at that time.“
