“I’m sure that Oscar too loved the sea since his earliest childhood (all the great passions take root very early, or else they never do so), that he got this love from his mother, that he felt from the moment that he was first dipped in water that this was his element, and that he didn’t “learn” to swim (whether he improved his style later is another matter), because we all knew, even before we were born, how to float, relaxed and comfortable, and move in a certain direction.”
