"Our main intention was to create a fountain that would symbolise San Fernando’s unique geographical and political location and the Cadiz area. We were influenced by the obvious associations with maritime communications between Spain, Africa and America and San Fernando’s role as the starting point for liberalism in Spain and in Latin America.

So the proposal we came up with was a kind of water bridge between the three continents represented by their geographical shape.

It’s the water that plays the main role! It falls on the gunwales of the ship and trickles down the sides until it reaches the keel, in the middle, from where it drips to the ground forming a light curtain".

This decision was based on the idea of creating an identifying monument for San Fernando that would enable it to compete with distinction with the image of neighbouring towns.
