For whose eyes were the enormous Nazca figures created? Why do great creators go to so much trouble to resolve aspects of their works that no human being can ever to appreciate?

Tusquets analyses this mysterious phenomenon through masterworks of architecture, engineering, film, painting, bull-fighting...  and deduces that their creators behaved as though their works could be seen and appreciated by a higher being.

After an ironic, polemical and impassioned survey, the author concludes, “In view of the torpor contemporary agnosticism is able to produce, and even though we are not entirely convinced of the existence of God, wouldn’t it be better to behave as though God existed and were able to judge our work?”
